A police officer has been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after authorities discovered 6,037 branches of dried leaves believed to be marijuana at his home last Wednesday. The findings arose from a police raid conducted following a tip-off, and tests confirmed the leaves tested positive for cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana.

The officer is currently in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Suva Magistrate Court tomorrow. This incident underscores the ongoing struggle the Fiji Police Force faces with internal corruption and drug-related offenses.

In a related context, earlier reports have shown that the Fiji Police Force has been actively working to eliminate drug trafficking networks and enhance the integrity of the law enforcement agency. The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has stated that these investigations reflect their commitment to accountability among officers and fostering public trust.

Such decisive action against law enforcement personnel found engaging in illegal activities serves as a reminder that no one is above the law. It is hoped that these firm measures will encourage community members to come forward with any information regarding suspicious activities, fostering a safer environment as efforts to combat drug-related crimes intensify.

The collective action toward addressing these serious issues can lead to greater public confidence in the justice system, ultimately promoting a drug-free and safer community for all residents.
