In a strong effort to promote integrity and restore public confidence, Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew and senior leadership members of the Fiji Police Force have voluntarily undergone drug tests. This action is part of a larger initiative aimed at establishing a drug-free environment within the organization.

Acting Commissioner Chew highlighted the importance of leaders setting a positive example in advocating for a drug-free workplace. “We are in the process of finalizing a mandatory drug testing policy, developed in alignment with the laws of Fiji and in consultation with the Solicitor General’s Office,” he stated.

Chew also pointed out that it is crucial for the leadership of the Fiji Police Force to take proactive measures to alter public perceptions concerning police involvement in drug-related issues. The initiative includes drug testing for high-ranking officers, including the Acting Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners, as well as other senior officials.

The upcoming mandatory drug testing policy is expected to reflect best practices from international law enforcement agencies. Commissioner Chew acknowledged that the public’s trust in the police has been compromised due to concerns about potential police involvement in illegal drug activities. “We aim to create a drug-free institution that operates with integrity, free from corruption and misconduct,” he reiterated.

The introduction of this policy is just one step among many being taken to enhance accountability and professionalism within the police force. Chew affirmed that all new policies will be carefully designed in collaboration with the Solicitor General’s Office to ensure they comply with Fiji’s legal standards and the best practices in law enforcement.

This initiative not only represents a commitment to transparency within the Fiji Police but also encourages a broader cultural shift towards accountability and public trust. The proactive measures taken by the police leadership are a hopeful sign that steps are being made towards a more trustworthy law enforcement system in Fiji.

In summary, the Fiji Police Force is taking significant strides by implementing drug tests for its leadership in an effort to combat public skepticism and foster a sense of integrity within the organization.
