A police K9 team responded to a burglary report in Vunato, Lautoka on Monday and successfully recovered stolen items.
The suspect, who is known to the police, managed to evade capture while discarding several stolen items, which were later found by the team. Among the recovered items were various electrical appliances.
In a separate operation, the K9 team with a mobile patrol stopped and searched a vehicle along Natabua seaside, seizing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. Numerous syringes and zip lock packets were also confiscated. Two men, aged 35 and 41, have been detained as investigations continue.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu highlighted that Police K9 units, supported by the Fiji Police Detector Dog Unit, are regularly deployed for special and routine operations.
ACP Driu also mentioned that routine snap checks are being conducted, targeting not only drugs but also assisting in the detection of other crimes. He acknowledged the support from agencies like the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service and the New Zealand Police, emphasizing the collective effort to keep the country and region safe from crime.
