Police have reported no confirmed connections between any current officers and the viral Viber messages that allege police misconduct, following the completion of the first phase of a digital forensic investigation. Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu stated that all devices belonging to those mentioned in the messages have been scrutinized, revealing no definitive evidence linking them to the allegations.
The controversial messages, which have gained significant traction on social media, allege misconduct by multiple officers and have triggered a comprehensive investigation into their origins and authenticity. Commissioner Tudravu emphasized, “The digital forensic team has done its part. Phase one is complete. We are now working on establishing the link from the source to the officers implicated.”
He further noted that screenshots circulating online cannot be deemed reliable evidence in court until the original messages’ source is verified. The initial phase of forensic analysis investigated both active and deleted content using internationally recognized forensic software, with the assistance of the Australian Federal Police and U.S. law enforcement agencies.
The investigation has now transitioned into its second phase, which involves examining the financial backgrounds of the implicated officers and working closely with other relevant stakeholders. “The main person we want to hold accountable is the one who sent the original message. That individual will provide the evidence we need to confirm or refute the allegations,” Tudravu remarked.
A senior detective has traveled to Sydney to obtain a statement from the individual who uploaded the messages online. Commissioner Tudravu reassured the public that the investigation remains active and transparent, committing to take decisive action against any officer found with a confirmed connection to misconduct.
He reiterated the police force’s commitment to uncovering the source of these allegations while ensuring accountability and upholding the integrity of the legal process, indicating a hopeful outlook toward restoring public confidence in law enforcement.
