The Police Cricket team triumphed over the Western Lions to secure the India-Fiji T20 3rd Year Cricket Tournament Rolling Trophy 2024, clinching victory in the final match at Albert Park, Suva last Saturday.
The Police team emerged victorious by 72 runs, finishing with a score of 172 runs while losing eight wickets, whereas the Lions could only manage 100 runs before being bowled out.
During the tournament, Peni Volavola Vuniwaqa was a standout performer for the Police, accumulating 316 runs in total, while Amal Attapathu from the Lions led in wickets taken, achieving a total of 11.
Both teams entered the final after a competitive journey through the pool and elimination stages. In the semi-finals held on September 28, the Police team defeated Army by 47 runs, and the Lions overcame Cicia by seven wickets.
This year marked the Western Lions’ debut in the tournament, making them the sole team from the West to participate. They first faced teams Cicia, BSP, and Sarafui Tinirau in the group stages, successfully beating each by six, five, and eight wickets respectively, with the only exception being the loss to Police by 97 runs.
The Police side progressed through the group stages by defeating Sarafui Tinirau, Cicia, Western Lions, and BSP with margins of 142 runs, 95 runs, 97 runs, and 44 runs respectively.
In the quarter-finals, the Police team bested CAF Warriors by 39 runs, while the Western Lions secured a win over Nasaqalau by 5 wickets. Both teams then advanced to the grand final after the Lions defeated Cicia and the Police overcame Army.
