A suspect has been taken into police custody following his arrest at the Nadonumai roundabout last night on charges of possessing illegal drugs. During the encounter, the suspect allegedly threatened a police officer.

The police, aided by the K-9 Unit, discovered a transparent plastic wrapper along with zip lock bags that contained foliage and branches believed to be marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, highlighted that drug-related arrests remain a priority for law enforcement agencies. He stressed that during the festive season, the Fiji Police Force plans to intensify its efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs across the nation.

“Our focus is on anyone suspected of involvement with drugs. We will be monitoring known drug hotspots and inspecting various vehicles and vessels as they move around during this festive period,” ACP Driu explained. He emphasized the importance of executing unexpected stop checks on vehicles, targeting those that seem suspicious. ACP Driu further urged the community to cooperate with the police in this critical drug enforcement initiative.

As the festive season approaches, the commitment of the police to maintaining public safety and curtailing drug-related activities is a positive step toward fostering a safer environment for all citizens. The ongoing community support and vigilance will play a crucial role in this battle against drug abuse and trafficking.
