A suspect is now in police custody following an arrest at the Nadonumai roundabout last night, in connection with alleged drug possession. During the incident, the suspect reportedly threatened a police officer.

Assisted by the K-9 Unit, law enforcement discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing material believed to be marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, emphasized that drug-related arrests are an ongoing concern.

As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force is intensifying its efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illegal drugs throughout the country. ACP Driu stated, “We are targeting anyone that is suspected of drug offenses. We will be monitoring known hotspots, as well as inspecting vehicles and vessels that might be involved in drug activities during this festive period.”

He also reassured the public that surprise stop checks will continue on vehicles and any individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior. The police are calling for public cooperation in this ongoing battle against drug crime.

This proactive approach by law enforcement serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance in maintaining safety, particularly during a time when festivities can lead to increased risks associated with drug use and trafficking. By encouraging public involvement, the Fiji Police Force highlights the collaborative effort needed to combat these issues effectively.
