Five men aged between 20 and 30 were apprehended in Vanua Levu during a police surge operation yesterday. According to the police statement, several individuals have been arrested for allegedly possessing illicit drugs unlawfully.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu reported that these divisional surge operations were bolstered by additional support from specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and Police Dog Unit.

“Disrupting the supply market remains a priority through farm raids, mop-up exercises, and targeting distributors,” Driu stated. He emphasized that the collaboration with the community has been vital for the success of these operations, as local support intensifies in the fight against drug-related issues.

In addition to drug-related arrests, police officials noted that various items suspected to be stolen were also confiscated during these operations, with investigations still ongoing.

This active engagement of law enforcement and community cooperation reflects a growing commitment to combating drug issues, maintaining safety, and reducing crime rates in the region.

Hopefully, continued efforts and collaboration can lead to a more significant impact in eradicating drug-related crime, fostering a safer environment for all residents.
