Six individuals are currently in police custody as authorities investigate their alleged possession of marijuana on Christmas Day. The arrests took place as part of the Fiji Police Force’s ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related offenses, particularly during the festive season when such activities tend to increase.
In the Southern Division, police apprehended a 38-year-old unemployed man in Nabua, Suva, who was found with seven sachets of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, all packaged in aluminum foil. Additionally, a 24-year-old unemployed man was arrested in Qauia, Lami, for possession of a branch of dried leaves believed to be marijuana. Also, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo in Tailevu was caught with 20 sachets of what authorities believe to be marijuana.
In another case, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were taken into custody at Valelevu, Nasinu, after allegedly being found with two ziplock bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for allegedly holding five sachets of dried leaves that are also believed to be marijuana.
As the police continue their crackdown on drug offenses, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized their vigilance, particularly in picnic areas and community spots where opportunists may try to exploit the festive atmosphere.
This ongoing campaign by the police serves as a reminder of their commitment to maintaining public safety and reducing the availability of illicit drugs in communities, especially during holiday periods.
It is crucial for the community to support these efforts by being aware and reporting any suspicious activities that could contribute to drug-related crimes. By working together, a safer environment can be cultivated for everyone.
