Six individuals are currently in police custody pending drug analysis after being reportedly found in possession of marijuana on Christmas Day. Their arrests occurred as the Fiji Police Force intensified its drug confiscation efforts during the festive season.
In the Southern Division, a 38-year-old unemployed man was apprehended in Nabua, Suva, possessing seven sachets of what is believed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. Another raid in Qauia, Lami, resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old unemployed man who was allegedly found with a branch of dried leaves, also believed to be marijuana. Additionally, a 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, was caught with 20 sachets of the same substance, similarly wrapped.
In a separate incident, two men from Vusuya, Kuku, near Nausori Town, were taken into custody at Valelevu, Nasinu, for allegedly possessing two ziplock plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance thought to be methamphetamine.
In the Western Division, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka, Lautoka, was arrested for supposedly holding five sachets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
As the police maintain their commitment to combatting drug-related offenses, Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu emphasized the importance of vigilance in picnic spots and communities during this time.
