Seven individuals have been detained following a police operation in Waqadra, Nadi, where a significant cache of zip lock bags containing crystals presumed to be methamphetamine was confiscated. In addition, law enforcement seized another bag containing a white powder thought to be cocaine, along with over $300 believed to be linked to criminal activities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu commented that the confiscation of cash linked to illicit activities reflects their effective strategy in disrupting and dismantling drug trafficking networks. He noted that recent arrests for unlawful drug possession were made in multiple locations, including behind the Labasa market, Tomuka in Lautoka, and other areas across Fiji.

ACP Driu emphasized the importance of targeting the financial aspects and assets of drug operations to mitigate the drug supply chain. While he acknowledged that these seizures might seem modest compared to larger nations, he highlighted the significance of each successful confiscation as it eliminates profits gained through illegal means.

The recent surge in arrests and drug seizures underlines the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to combatting the drug trade, bolstered by active community involvement and cooperation from various stakeholders.

This ongoing effort not only aims to disrupt drug networks but also fosters a collective responsibility within the community to address substance abuse and its associated risks. With continued vigilance and collaboration, there is hope for a safer and healthier environment for all citizens.
