Police Crackdown on Holiday Drugs: A Community Effort

Police are addressing the increasing issue of drug-related activities as the holiday season nears. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu announced that a concerted effort is underway to combat both white drugs like methamphetamine and green drugs such as marijuana across all five policing divisions.

In Labasa, authorities apprehended two men during separate operations. A 55-year-old resident of Vunivau was arrested after zip lock bags containing a white substance believed to be methamphetamine were discovered. Similarly, a 52-year-old man from Siberia was detained for possessing the same substance along with smoking equipment.

In Raiwaqa, police found two students, aged 15 and 16, with dry leaves suspected to be marijuana during a search at their school. Additionally, in Ba, a 33-year-old man was arrested when police uncovered multiple bundles of dried leaves potentially linked to marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized that these police actions are guided by community information and intelligence, reiterating that both categories of illegal drugs pose considerable risks to society. He stated, “With young lives at stake, we cannot afford to be selective in our approach,” highlighting the necessity for ongoing cooperation with the public.
