Police in Navua have recently captured two 35-year-old men after uncovering dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine in their possession. These arrests were part of a series of police snap checks carried out across five divisions this month.

During the initial snap check conducted by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), multiple sachets containing drugs were discovered. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that a raid took place the previous Wednesday in Raiwai, located just outside Suva City. Authorities seized white substances believed to be methamphetamine, alongside items suspected to be stolen, as well as both foreign and local currencies. In total, two men and one woman were arrested during the operation, and the confiscated items have been sent for forensic analysis.

In addition to these events, further checks at a Bagasau roadblock in Savusavu led police officers from the Tukavesi Police Station to search a bus, where they found a bag containing dried leaves thought to be marijuana. The Western Division also saw two individuals apprehended on Monday night for possessing dried marijuana leaves after a snap check on Sabeto Road in Nadi.

ACP Driu emphasized that these snap checks are proving effective, and police operations will continue throughout all five divisions to address drug-related issues.

This concerted effort by law enforcement signals a proactive approach to combatting drug use and trafficking in the region, reflecting a commitment to public safety. The ongoing cooperation between different police units is a hopeful sign that communities can work together to curtail the influence of illegal drugs.
