In a recent operation in Vanua Levu, police apprehended five men aged between 20 and 30 as part of their ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes. The arrests were made during a series of surge operations aimed at addressing the illegal possession of illicit drugs.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, indicated that these divisional operations are bolstered by additional personnel from specialized units, including the Police Mobile Force, the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, and the Police Dog Unit. This collaborative approach emphasizes the police’s commitment to disrupting the drug supply chain through tactics such as farm raids, mop-up exercises, and the targeting of distributors.

Driu highlighted the importance of community support and information sharing, which has been crucial to the success of recent raids and operations conducted in the northern regions. Furthermore, police have also seized items that are suspected to be stolen, with ongoing investigations into these findings.

This initiative signifies an encouraging community backing in the fight against drugs, with the collaboration between law enforcement and the public showing promising results. The continued focus on eradicating drug-related issues not only enhances safety within communities but also fosters a future where residents can live free from the threats posed by illicit substances.
