Police are intensifying their crackdown on illegal drug activities as the festive season approaches. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has made it clear that the police will focus on individuals suspected of drug involvement, stating, “We are targeting anyone suspected of drugs.”
As part of this effort, law enforcement will be monitoring known drug hotspots and conducting checks on vehicles and vessels throughout this period. ACP Driu has noted that drug-related arrests are being made daily, with police ramping up operations to combat the illegal drug trade, especially during the busy holiday season.
He has called upon the community to support the police in the ongoing battle against drugs. Recently, one notable arrest occurred at the Nadonumai roundabout in Lami, near Suva, where a vehicle was stopped for a routine inspection. The driver of the vehicle allegedly threatened the officer during the process, which led to further inquiries.
With assistance from the K-9 Unit, police officials discovered a clear plastic wrapper containing five dried branches and leaves believed to be marijuana. An additional search of the suspect’s home uncovered a zip-lock plastic bag filled with loose dried leaves, also suspected to be marijuana. The individual is currently in custody at the Lami Police Station as investigations continue.
ACP Driu emphasized that this operation is just one of many efforts being implemented by the police force to reduce drug-related crimes during the festive season.
This proactive approach to law enforcement not only aims to reduce drug-related issues but also promotes community safety, showcasing the determination of the police to create a safer environment for everyone during a time typically associated with celebration and joy.
In summary, the police are committed to combating drug activities during the festive season, with community cooperation playing a vital role in these efforts.
