On Christmas Day, six individuals were arrested in connection with drug possession across various locations. A 38-year-old unemployed man from Nabua was caught with seven sachets of suspected marijuana. Meanwhile, a 24-year-old unemployed man from Qauia, Lami, was found with a branch of what is believed to be marijuana after a police search.
Additionally, in Valelevu, two men, aged 44 and 40, both from Vusuya, Nausori, were apprehended after being found in possession of two zip lock bags containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine. A 52-year-old man from Nakelo, Tailevu, also had 20 sachets of what is believed to be marijuana. Lastly, in Lautoka, a 50-year-old unemployed man from Tomuka was arrested with five sachets of dried leaves, presumed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, explained that the police maintained vigilance and conducted regular drug checks during the holiday. He emphasized that police teams would continue monitoring picnic areas and community spaces for any illicit activities. All six individuals are currently in police custody as investigations proceed and drug analysis is underway.
This crackdown on drug possession during the festive period reflects a continued commitment by law enforcement to ensure public safety and address substance abuse issues within the community. By maintaining a strong presence and conducting thorough checks, police aim to deter illicit drug activities, especially during times when gatherings are common.
