In a recent crackdown on illegal substances, police in Navua arrested two 35-year-old men after they were found in possession of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine. The arrests took place as part of police operations involving snap checks across all five divisions.
The initial apprehension was conducted by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), along with the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, during a raid in Raiwai, just outside Suva City. Law enforcement seized several white substances believed to be methamphetamine, along with items suspected to be stolen property and both foreign and local currencies. Alongside the two men, a woman was also arrested during this operation.
In an additional operation, officers at a roadblock in Savusavu discovered a black bag containing dried marijuana leaves after inspecting a bus. Moreover, in the Western Division, two individuals were detained on Monday night at Sabeto Road, Nadi, where police confiscated more dried marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu noted the effectiveness of these snap checks and indicated that similar joint raids would persist across the police divisions.
This proactive approach by law enforcement aims to combat drug-related crimes and enhance community safety. It reflects a commitment to maintaining public order and reducing substance abuse, ultimately contributing to a healthier society.
