Police Commissioner’s Powerful Message to Officers: A Reminder of Duty and Sacrifice

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew reminded officers of their roles and responsibilities during the last quarter church service in Suva today.

Chew stated, “We share an understanding that we are here not of our own conviction, but because of a greater calling. From the day we swore an oath to serve, we must never forget that the pledge was made between you and your God. Treat it lightly and the repercussions will be felt – while it may not be immediate, but in due time.”

He mentioned that the service was also an opportunity to re-evaluate their personal and professional lives.

“We are losing too many of our comrades. They leave behind their families and in most cases, young children who are too young to be put through such a traumatic experience of losing a parent.”

“Their passing also serves as a reminder that we need to look after ourselves better, for the sake of the very ones who have sacrificed their time – in order for us to conduct our duties, our families. Let’s do better by them, by prioritizing our health so we can give back what they so desire from us – our time.”
