Police Commissioner Post: Candidates Keep Quiet on Applications

Potential candidates for the position of Police Commissioner are remaining silent about their intentions to apply once the application process is announced.

On the previous day, Attorney-General Graham Leung confirmed the resignation of former Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho. It has also been verified that Qiliho sought legal counsel from lawyers Devanesh Sharma and Gul Fatima of R Patel Lawyers concerning his resignation.

Leung was unable to specify when the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) would reconvene to determine the timeline for advertising a new Police Commissioner position. He noted, “A meeting date for the COC is yet to be confirmed as the Prime Minister is overseas.”

Former acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu, who is considered a potential candidate, stated he could not comment on his interest in the position at this time. Current acting Police Commissioner Juki Fong Chew expressed a similar view, suggesting, “Let’s wait for the post to be advertised first, then we will take it on from there.”
