The Police Force has successfully retained the 2024 Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl Competition after narrowly defeating the Army with a score of 20-19 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday. This win is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the Fiji Police Force’s milestone of 150 years of service.
Coach Solomone Nute praised his team for their unwavering effort and determination throughout the competition. He highlighted the exceptional performance of young player Ponipate Tuberi, who was awarded the man of the match title for his contributions on the field.
On the other hand, Army captain John Muller expressed his disappointment over the narrow defeat, acknowledging that his team had several clear opportunities to clinch the victory but fell short.
Throughout the week-long Sukuna Bowl competition, the Police showed remarkable dominance, securing victories in multiple sports including Cricket, Soccer, Boxing, Volleyball, and a Development rugby match. The Army could only score wins in Netball and women’s rugby.
This event not only showcases the competitive spirit between the two forces but also reflects the rich sporting tradition and community spirit in Fiji. The future looks bright as both teams continue to strive for excellence in their respective sports.
This victory and the overall performance of the Police reflect not only their skills on the field but also their commitment to teamwork and resilience. Both teams can look forward to further competitions that will enhance their athletic capabilities and strengthen community ties.
