In response to public concerns regarding insufficient police action regarding a domestic violence restraining order breach in the Western Division, Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu reinforced the necessity for frontline officers to adhere to basic policing protocols. Individual officers in the division are now being urged to prioritize prompt responses to all reports of incidents, particularly regarding domestic violence.

Following the circulation of a video depicting the incident, the Divisional Police Commander for the West reached out personally to the complainant, ensuring that a formal report was filed. The victim was given assurances that law enforcement is actively pursuing the suspect, who has a documented history of similar infractions.

Commissioner Tudravu acknowledged that inadequate responses from officers have been a critical issue and emphasized the need for a more urgent and efficient response to complaints. He urged managers at all levels of the police force to treat every report with the seriousness it demands and to take necessary steps towards improving service delivery.

These calls for improvement align with previous remarks made by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa, who has also stressed that no complaint should be overlooked and that appropriate guidance should be provided to complainants to ensure their satisfaction. This highlights a collective commitment within the police leadership to enhance accountability and responsiveness, which is essential for public trust and community safety.

Overall, the efforts being put forth by the police leadership demonstrate a dedication to addressing these concerns comprehensively. The renewed focus on serving the community’s best interests is a hopeful step towards reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement. With these reforms, there is optimism that the police will become more effective in their duty to protect vulnerable individuals and provide a safer environment for all.
