In a recent crackdown on drug-related activities, police have detained five individuals, including a 50-year-old businessman, in the Northern Division over the last two days. This operation was confirmed by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.

The police made significant discoveries on Friday, December 27, in Naweni Village, Savusavu, where they found branches of leaves believed to be marijuana inside a home. The male suspect present was arrested, and the dried leaves have been collected for further analysis.

On Saturday, authorities expanded their operations in Labasa, where four individuals were taken into custody at various locations. Among them was the 50-year-old businessman, who was found with two sachets of dried leaves, presumed to be marijuana, wrapped in aluminum foil. A 20-year-old male student from Batinivuruwai, Bua, was similarly apprehended with one sachet of the substance. Additionally, a 55-year-old farmer and a 35-year-old woman in Naduna Settlement had in their possession one sealed plastic bag, a sachet, and a jar containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

All seized items have been sent for analysis with results pending. ACP Driu emphasized that police would continue with their drug raids and special operations during the festive season, indicating a commitment to curbing drug-related crimes.

This initiative reflects the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to ensure community safety, especially during a time when celebrations often increase the potential for substance abuse. The determination to address drug issues can lead to a healthier and safer environment for all citizens.

In summary, police are actively battling drug-related offenses in the Northern Division by conducting strategic operations, reminding the community of their responsibility to report suspicious activities and contribute to maintaining a safe and peaceful environment.
