Four police officers have been charged with serious offenses including assault causing actual bodily harm, rape, and receiving a bribe. The police department confirmed that these charges were brought forward last month.
In related news, there were 22 reported serious assaults on police officers in October. While incidents of robbery and aggravated robbery have decreased in this timeframe, there is a noted uptick in illicit drug cases, particularly in the Southern, Western, and Central Divisions.
The statistics reveal that out of 181 drug-related cases reported, 176 were associated with unlawful possession, and 5 involved the illegal cultivation of drugs. The majority of these cases focused on marijuana (160), followed by methamphetamine (20), and a single incident involving cocaine.
Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew pointed out that the rise in drug cases illustrates the ongoing efforts in the war on drugs, thanks in part to community collaboration aimed at dismantling and disrupting illegal networks. He emphasized the importance of teamwork with stakeholders during the launch of the festive season operation, which is a proactive step towards enhancing community safety.
Moving forward, the commitment to working together to ensure safer neighborhoods is a hopeful sign that community efforts and law enforcement will continue to make strides against crime and illicit activities.
This thorough approach by the police not only targets crime but also fosters community engagement, creating a strong foundation for collaborative crime prevention efforts in the future.
