The Police boxing team had a strong start at the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition, securing victories in seven out of the eleven bouts on the opening day at the LICI Court in Suva on Tuesday. Notably, Jone Davule, the captain of the Police team and a representative of National Amateur Boxing, showcased his skills by winning his match against the Army’s Pita Nasowaqa through a points decision.
In the lightweight division, Petero Vunivalu also contributed to the Police team’s success by defeating Army boxer Ratu Kelevi Mawi. However, it wasn’t all one-sided, as Army’s Samuela Naqari achieved a win over Jone Tuitabu in the 80 to 86kg category. The Army team also celebrated victories by Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu.
The competition is set to continue today, culminating in the finals where both teams will seek to further showcase their talent and determination in the ring.
