The Police boxing team had an impressive start at the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition held at the LICI Court in Suva on Tuesday, winning seven out of the 11 bouts. Jone Davule, a representative for the National Amateur Boxing team and captain of the Police squad, led the charge by securing a victory over Army’s Pita Nasowaqa, winning the match on points.
In the lightweight division, Petero Vunivalu also claimed victory, defeating Army’s Ratu Kelevi Mawi. Meanwhile, Army’s Samuela Naqari triumphed against Jone Tuitabu in the 80-86kg category. Other notable victories for the Army team included performances from Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu.
The competition is set to continue today, culminating in the finals, where more excitement and fierce rivalry are expected.
