The Police boxing team delivered a strong performance on the opening day of the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition held at the LICI Court in Suva on Tuesday, securing victory in seven out of the 11 matches.
Leading the way for the Police team was Jone Davule, a national amateur boxing representative and captain, who showcased his skills by defeating Army’s Pita Nasowaqa by points. In another highlight, Petero Vunivalu achieved a notable win in the lightweight division, overcoming Army’s Ratu Kelevi Mawi.
On the Army’s side, Samuela Naqari triumphed over Jone Tuitabu in the 80 to 86kg category, while additional victories were earned by Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu from the Army team.
The boxing competition is set to continue today with the finals, promising more exciting matchups.
