The Police boxing team achieved a remarkable feat on the opening day of the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition held at the LICI Court in Suva, winning seven out of the eleven matches on Tuesday.
Captain of the Police team, Jone Davule, representing the National Amateur Boxing, set a strong precedent by securing a victory in his first match against Army’s Pita Nasowaqa, winning on points.
In the lightweight division, Petero Vunivalu also triumphed, defeating Army’s Ratu Kelevi Mawi.
However, the Army team showcased their strength as well, with Samuela Naqari overcoming Jone Tuitabu in the 80 to 86kg category. Additionally, wins were recorded by Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu, all contributing to the Army’s competitive presence in the tournament.
The boxing tournament is set to continue today, culminating in the finals, where further exciting matches are anticipated.
