The Police boxing team showcased an impressive performance on the opening day of the Sukuna Bowl Boxing competition at the LICI Court in Suva, securing victory in seven out of the 11 matches. Jone Davule, the captain of the Police team and a national amateur boxing representative, set a strong tone for the team by winning his bout against Army’s Pita Nasowaqa by points.
In the lightweight category, Petero Vunivalu also celebrated success, defeating Army’s Ratu Kelevi Mawi. The Army team did, however, manage to claim some victories, with Samuela Naqari triumphing over Jone Tuitabu in the 80 to 86 kg division, along with wins from teammates Rusiate Qalo, Noa Yabakidrau, and Meli Nailumu.
The competition is set to continue today, culminating in the finals, where more thrilling bouts are expected.
