Suva rugby head coach Solo Nute is placing his hopes on Police Blue as they prepare to defend the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield against Navy in the grand final scheduled for Saturday, September 21.
“I’m with the Police team and I hope they perform well against Navy,” Nute stated. He emphasized the significance of the upcoming final, especially since there are no other competitions like the Skipper Cup at this time, making the Escott Shield the primary focus.
Nute mentioned that the Police players need to enhance their fitness levels and improve their control over scrums. “They must prioritize game management to create more scoring opportunities,” he added. He also encouraged Suva supporters to turn out in large numbers to back their teams following the conclusion of the Hibiscus Festival.
Looking ahead, Nute noted that the Suva team will begin its pre-season training in January of next year. “We will review the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) calendar of events and adjust our plans accordingly,” he said.
Nute expressed optimism about bringing in some players from the Fiji Under-20 squad. “Our goal is to blend experienced players with young talent to strengthen our player pool ahead of selecting the team for the next Skipper Cup,” he concluded.
