Police Blue Set to Clash with Navy in Escott Shield Showdown!

Suva rugby head coach Solo Nute is placing his hopes on Police Blue as they prepare to defend the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield against Navy in the grand final scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

“I’m with the Police team and I hope they perform well against Navy,” Nute stated. He emphasized the importance of this final due to the absence of other competitions like the Skipper Cup, which has led the team to focus on the Escott Shield.

Nute highlighted the need for Police players to enhance their fitness levels and improve their scrum control. “Game management will be crucial for them to create more scoring opportunities,” he added.

With the Hibiscus Festival concluded, he encouraged Suva supporters to show their backing by attending the grand final in large numbers. Looking ahead, Nute mentioned that Suva will begin its pre-season training in January next year.

“We need to align ourselves with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) calendar of events,” he explained. “There are emerging players from the FRU High Performance Unit and the Suva setup.”

Nute is optimistic about recruiting several Fiji Under-20 players into his squad. “Our goal is to blend experienced players with young talent to strengthen our player pool before selecting the team for the next Skipper Cup,” he concluded.
