Police Blue is shifting gears after a commanding victory at the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s, now setting their sights on the upcoming McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s. This recent triumph not only serves as vital affirmation of their efforts but also highlights a squad in the midst of a transitional phase, where new talent is integrated alongside experienced players.
Coach Apenisa Nasilasila praised the disciplined preparation that led to their victory, stating, “Our process was to simply get this one right before we regroup.” He emphasized the importance of their two-week training camp in Sigatoka, thanking the leadership group and families for their unwavering support throughout this process.
The current roster displays a purposeful strategy of rebuilding, with plans to maintain a core group of players as they forge ahead. Nasilasila remarked, “The Fiji Police 7s team is rebuilding again, and hopefully, come next week, we’ll get to see what some of our young guys will have to offer in the Coral Coast.”
Winning in Labasa has not just brought home a trophy; it has given Police Blue the psychological edge necessary for the challenging competition expected at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. Nasilasila noted, “Going into next week, this is a big boost for us, and hopefully, we get the job done.”
Armed with momentum and the benefits of their extended stay in Sigatoka, Police Blue is aiming for success at the Coral Coast 7s. Historically, they have been strong competitors, holding the record for the most titles at this event, with victories in 2014, 2016, and a three-year title defense from 2018 to 2020.
The team earned their spot in the Coral Coast 7s during the 2025 Super Sevens Series last month at Lawaqa Park. In the tournament, they will be placed in Pool A alongside Fiji Babas, Nationwide Sydney Nadi 7s, and Seattle Barbarians. The action commences on Thursday, with the finals scheduled for Saturday, and the captain’s photoshoot set for Wednesday. With their experienced background and recent success, Police Blue is well-positioned as a strong contender for the title.
