A suspect was taken into custody by the police last night at the Nadonumai roundabout for allegedly possessing illegal drugs. During the arrest, the individual allegedly threatened a police officer. Thanks to the assistance of the K-9 Unit, authorities discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing what is suspected to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, noted that drug arrests are a regular occurrence. He emphasized that the Fiji Police Force intends to intensify its efforts to combat the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs during the festive season.
“We are focusing on anyone suspected of involvement with drugs. Our team will be monitoring known drug hotspots, along with conducting checks on vehicles and vessels that may be active during this holiday period,” Driu stated. He assured the public that they will continue conducting surprise stop checks on suspicious individuals and vehicles. Additionally, he called on community members to join them in their ongoing battle against drug-related crimes.
This proactive stance by the police demonstrates a commitment to keeping communities safe during a time when drug-related activities are likely to increase. It is crucial for the public to be vigilant and supportive of the police’s efforts in making the community a safer place for everyone.
In summary, the arrest at the Nadonumai roundabout represents a broader commitment by law enforcement to address drug issues, especially as the festive season approaches. The collaborative efforts between the police and the community can lead to a positive impact in reducing drug-related activities.
