Government initiatives aimed at reducing drug use among students are set to gain momentum through enhanced school-based advocacy. This development follows a meeting between Ioane Naivalurua, the Minister for Policing and Communications, and Aseri Radrodro, the Minister for Education.

The discussion highlighted the necessity for early intervention and sustained efforts, particularly in identifying red-zone schools that may need more focused prevention and awareness programs. Both ministers emphasized the importance of having ongoing engagement within schools to effectively tackle the emerging challenges facing youth.

Several initiatives were proposed during the talks, including an increased role for the Fiji Police Force in school advocacy efforts. The plan also includes broadcasting daily community policing messages on select radio stations and utilizing billboards to promote drug-free lifestyles. Additionally, the revival of the Domonivuli program was mentioned as an important step towards raising awareness of the dangers associated with drug use.

These collaborative efforts represent a proactive approach to safeguarding the well-being of students, fostering a drug-free environment, and empowering young people with knowledge and resources to make healthier choices.
