The Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has announced that a comprehensive investigation will be launched regarding two recent police vehicle accidents in Nadi and Laqere. This move follows the Commissioner of Police’s directive to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the investigation process.
ACP Driu underscored the importance of these inquiries, noting that police vehicle accidents significantly impact service delivery and can erode public trust if officers do not adhere to the laws they enforce. He emphasized that such adherence is crucial for maintaining community confidence in law enforcement.
As part of the investigative efforts, traffic authorities will scrutinize the circumstances of the accidents, while an internal review will assess whether proper protocols for vehicle deployment and monitoring were adhered to. The ACP has reiterated that this initiative aligns with the Commissioner of Police’s commitment to ensuring that the Fiji Police Force operates with integrity and efficiency.
Furthermore, Driu pointed out that police vehicles are vital assets for daily operations, and any accidents that disable these vehicles hinder the police’s ability to serve the community effectively. Alongside the traffic investigations, the Internal Affairs division will also evaluate compliance with established systems and procedures regarding the use of the involved vehicles.
The Fiji Police Force remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold honesty and strict adherence to internal protocols, as these practices are essential for enhancing operational efficiency and preventing potential misconduct.
In a time when police accountability and community trust are paramount, these investigations reflect a proactive approach towards ensuring that the police maintain a responsible and transparent service. The ongoing commitment to integrity may promote public confidence in law enforcement and contribute positively to community relations.
