Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has called on Ratu Kadavulevu School (RKS), Queen Victoria School (QVS), and the communities in Tailevu North to collaborate with the Government in combating the proliferation of narcotics in Fiji.
During the RKS Centennial celebration at Albert Park in Suva, he expressed his concerns after city cleaners discovered drug-related evidence in trash collected following the Hibiscus Festival. Rabuka stated he had hoped that the cleanup following the festival would reveal no signs of drug use.
On his way to a community service event, he requested police to inspect the refuse from the festival, which resulted in the findings of narcotics. He emphasized the need for community collective efforts to address this harmful influence in society, urging the Lodoni/RKS community to take action.
The Prime Minister conveyed his aspirations for RKS to continue nurturing responsible citizens who will positively impact the nation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, corroborated the presence of methamphetamine, marijuana, and syringes in the areas surrounding the festival venues. He reported that loose syringes had been found in various locations, including Nabukalou Creek and near local cinemas. The police have detained several individuals as part of their investigation, expressing concerns over the lack of public reports regarding drug use.
