Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka emphasized the vital role of law enforcement in sustaining peace and security during his visit to senior police officials in the Western Division on December 9. The Prime Minister met with police leadership at the Lautoka Police Headquarters, engaging with the divisional police commander, station officers, and other senior officials.

In his address, Rabuka acknowledged the difficulties faced by police in their pursuit of safety and law enforcement. He stressed the importance of serving with integrity and impartiality, underlining that the duty of police officers is to uphold the law. “It is essential for the community to have a natural affinity for abiding by the law; when there is peace, citizens are less likely to challenge it,” he stated.

The Prime Minister called for a cultural shift, urging officers to instill a national sense of pride and discipline within society to foster productive citizenship. He encouraged the police to work on maintaining public confidence in the rule of law and the justice system.

Rabuka also urged the officers to reflect on their experiences and identify opportunities for improvement, highlighting the necessity of building trust through transparent, community-oriented policing. He concluded his remarks by expressing gratitude for the officers’ dedication and encouraged them to remain committed to professionalism and upholding the law.

This dialogue between the Prime Minister and police officials reflects a proactive approach to enhancing community safety and the relationship between the police and the public. By fostering a culture of trust and integrity within law enforcement, there is a hopeful pathway to greater societal harmony.

In summary, the Prime Minister’s engagement signals a commitment to both empowering police officers and improving community relations, which can lead to a more peaceful and cooperative society.
