PM Rabuka Advocates for Inquiry Amid FICAC Controversy

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has declared that a Commission of Inquiry is the most suitable and unbiased way to investigate allegations concerning the operations of FICAC, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

His remarks were in response to inquiries from local media about comments made by Francis Pulewai, the former Acting Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, during an interview with foreign media.

Rabuka emphasized that an independent commission would be better equipped to examine Pulewai’s claims, especially those related to supposed ministerial interference in FICAC’s investigations.

“If such an inquiry finds that there was indeed undue interference, the due process recommended by the Commission of Inquiry will need to be followed,” he stated.

He also noted that there have been no alterations to the laws governing FICAC and affirmed that the government will continue to uphold the law.

Regarding accusations that Pulewai faced threats, the Prime Minister condemned any such actions, should they have occurred. He clarified that he had not been informed of any threats, nor had they been reported to him or the Fiji Police.
