Trustees from six mahogany plantations in Vanua Levu gathered in Labasa yesterday for a meeting with the Ministry of Forestry, Fiji Mahogany Trust, Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, and the iTaukei Land Trust Board.

The purpose of the consultations was to promote transparency and engage stakeholders prior to the commencement of harvesting operations. Uraia Rainima, the Divisional Commissioner for Northern Fiji, emphasized the significance of this meeting for landowners and its connection to the Government’s National Development Plan.

Iowane Naiveli, Chairman of Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, underscored the necessity of good governance and the generation of revenue from these operations. The trustees represent plantations located in Navonu, Saqani, Seaqaqa, Dreketi, Korotari, and Wainunu.
