“Plan Your Travel: Avoid Speeding and Stay Safe This Weekend”

Drivers are urged to plan their travels in advance to prevent the danger of speeding-related accidents. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, emphasized the importance of time management as major events are set for this weekend, which could lead to rushed driving.

“Daily, we are issuing tickets to drivers for speeding, and we fear that poor time management will lead individuals to exceed speed limits,” SSP Divuana stated. He criticized those who ignore speed regulations as selfish, noting that rushing often leads to dangerous driving habits.

“When individuals are late, they frequently speed, which is a well-known cause of accidents and fatalities. Drivers must recognize that speeding jeopardizes everyone’s safety and the repercussions extend beyond merely breaking the law,” he added.

The Director of Traffic urged everyone to contribute to safer roads by calling out reckless behavior. “If you’re a passenger, speak up against such practices and do not support dangerous actions. If you are part of a traveling group, ensure you are well-prepared ahead of time to help the driver avoid rushing.”

The Fiji Police Force reiterated that speeding elevates the risk of accidents due to decreased reaction time and control over the vehicle. Additionally, speeding can worsen the severity of injuries in accidents and inflict deep trauma on victims’ families.

“We advocate for safe driving at all times to prevent accidents,” the police reminded drivers.
