Drivers are urged to plan their travel in advance to minimize the risk of speeding-related accidents. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, emphasized the importance of time management this weekend due to several major events.

“Daily, we are penalizing drivers for speeding, and we are concerned that poor time management may lead to rushed driving,” SSP Divuana stated. He pointed out that those who disregard speed limits are acting selfishly and without regard for others’ safety.

“People tend to speed when they are running late, which is a well-known contributor to accidents and fatalities. Speeding not only jeopardizes individual safety but also poses risks to everyone on the road, resulting in consequences that extend beyond legal penalties,” he added.

SSP Divuana encouraged the public to take a stand against dangerous driving behavior. “If you are a passenger, don’t hesitate to voice your concerns about reckless actions. If you are traveling in a group, ensure everything is well-prepared in advance to help the driver avoid rushing.”

The Police Force reiterated that speeding increases the likelihood of accidents due to reduced reaction time and vehicle control. Moreover, it heightens the potential severity of injuries in the event of a crash and inflicts emotional trauma on the victims’ families.

Authorities are calling for the adoption of safe driving practices at all times to prevent accidents.
