An Australian firm, PharmOut, has been tasked with conducting a feasibility study for the Nutraceutical and Medicinal Cannabis sectors in Fiji. This initiative is supported by the Australian Government and the Market Development Facility, and the announcement was made during a recent Cabinet meeting that reviewed the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Feasibility Study Report.

PharmOut’s study will offer a thorough analysis of the economic potential and market viability of these industries. It covers various critical aspects, including an evaluation of relevant laws and regulations, as well as case studies from other countries. Furthermore, the report will assess the operational and financial feasibility, including logistics, the investment environment, and the possible socio-economic benefits associated with establishing a medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.

The report also addresses risks related to potential illicit use and the impact on the country’s reputation. Following the study’s findings, the Cabinet has greenlit the development of Medicinal Cannabis legislation. This legal framework will be crafted in cooperation with the Office of the Solicitor-General and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

This project signifies a progressive step for Fiji in exploring alternative industries that could stimulate economic growth and provide new opportunities. The careful assessment of both the benefits and risks demonstrates a commitment to responsible development in this emerging sector.

In summary, the feasibility study led by PharmOut could pave the way for a well-regulated medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji, balancing economic advancement with public health and safety measures.
