The Pacific Islands Forum Troika mission to New Caledonia has been officially scheduled for early October, according to Secretary General Baron Waqa, who made the announcement during a press conference today.
Waqa highlighted that foreign leaders have reiterated their support for the Troika mission, and discussions are ongoing with both the governments of New Caledonia and France regarding the potential deployment of the mission within the coming month.
The Forum has been collaborating with the French government and the New Caledonian administration to ensure that the mission’s objectives and arrangements align with the expectations of all relevant stakeholders.
The government of New Caledonia previously raised concerns over due process and protocol, which led to the postponement of the mission last month.
Waqa confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will remain a part of the delegation for the mission.
The Forum Troika is a key regional political consulting mechanism, represented by Forum leaders, and plays an essential role in promoting regional initiatives.
