The Pacific Islands Forum Troika-led mission to New Caledonia is set for early October.
Secretary General Baron Waqa confirmed this during a press conference, stating that foreign leaders have reiterated their dedication to the TROIKA mission. Discussions are ongoing with the governments of New Caledonia and France regarding the mission’s deployment in October.
The Forum has been collaborating with the French State and the Government of New Caledonia to align the mission’s objectives with the expectations of all involved parties. Previously, the mission was delayed due to concerns raised by the New Caledonia Government about due process and protocol.
Waqa also mentioned that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will be part of the delegation. The Forum Troika serves as a crucial regional political consultative mechanism, represented by Forum Leaders, vital for advancing regional initiatives.
