The Pacific Islands Forum Troika-led mission to New Caledonia is scheduled to take place in early October, as confirmed by Secretary General Baron Waqa during a press conference today. Waqa stated, “Foreign leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to the TROIKA mission to New Caledonia, and we are in discussions with the governments of New Caledonia and France about the possible deployment of the mission in October.”
The Forum is collaborating with both the French State and the Government of New Caledonia to ensure that all stakeholders’ expectations are met concerning the mission’s objectives and arrangements. The New Caledonia Government raised several concerns regarding due process and protocol, which led to the postponement of the mission last month.
Waqa also confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will participate in the delegation. The Forum Troika serves as a significant high-level regional political consultative mechanism, with representation from Forum Leaders, essential for advancing regional initiatives.
