The Pacific Islands Forum Troika mission to New Caledonia has been confirmed to take place in early October.

Secretary General Baron Waqa announced this during a press conference today, stating, “Foreign leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to the TROIKA mission to New Caledonia, and we are currently in discussions with the governments of New Caledonia and France regarding the deployment of the mission in October.”

The Forum has been collaborating with both the French State and the Government of New Caledonia to ensure that the mission’s goals and arrangements align with the expectations of all relevant stakeholders.

Last month, the New Caledonia Government raised several concerns regarding due process and protocol, which led to the postponement of the mission. Waqa confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will still participate in the delegation.

The Forum Troika serves as a high-level regional political consultative mechanism, represented by Forum Leaders, and plays a crucial role in promoting regional initiatives.
