The first phase of the ambitious Nadawa Emerald Bay project in Nasinu has officially commenced. This $2.5 billion housing initiative is set to deliver 184 residential lots, specifically designed for families currently residing in squatter settlements.

Felix Magnus, the Chair of the Nasinu Town Council, emphasized that the project is not solely focused on housing solutions but also aims to create job opportunities for local residents. He expressed optimism about the potential impact of the project, stating, “So, hopefully between now and the next two to three years, we should see a vast improvement in terms of controlling the squatter settlements, and maybe eradicating the whole squatter settlements and moving them into proper housing, through employment of the people here.”

In preparation for this development, approximately 4,000 youths have undergone training and some have already secured positions in various housing projects in Nepani and surrounding areas. This initiative aligns with the National Development Plan, aiming to directly address unemployment, which Magnus identifies as a significant contributor to crime and social instability.

The first phase of the Nadawa Emerald Bay project is on track for completion by mid-year, and it promises to bring substantial improvements to both the housing situation and employment prospects in the community. With a focus on transforming lives and neighborhoods, this project could mark a significant step forward in urban development for Nasinu.
