PETRO Oceania Fuels is currently in the process of emptying a leaking fuel tank to facilitate necessary repairs. The company confirmed that repair work commenced yesterday after the fuel levels in the tank were decreased to at least 50%. This operation is expected to take approximately three to four hours.
James Marryatt, the chief executive officer of Petro Oceania, expressed confidence in the company’s handling of the situation, stating, “Our staff are extremely well-trained professionals and by following our Emergency Procedures and by working closely with the Fiji Police and National Fire Authority, we have safely managed this event.”
In light of this incident, the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) is actively monitoring developments. The National Fire Authority (NFA) reassured the community that all necessary safety protocols are being upheld, and they will provide updates as the situation progresses.
The leak was first detected around 5 a.m. yesterday, prompting the immediate activation of Petro Oceania’s emergency response measures designed to contain the spill and protect both public safety and the environment. Mr. Marryatt indicated that a thorough investigation is already in progress to identify the cause of the leak, emphasizing the company’s commitment to preventing similar incidents in the future.
