The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Fiji has issued a reminder that a permit is required for the removal or importation of a whale’s tooth, known as tabua, into or out of the country. Citizens must complete a permit application in accordance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This application can only be obtained directly from the Ministry’s offices.
Failure to comply with this regulation could result in significant fines, amounting to $10,000.
