The People’s Alliance (PA) continues to express its unwavering support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka despite rising criticisms regarding his handling of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report and the appointment of the acting FICAC commissioner. Deputy party leader and Minister for Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, reiterated that the party stands firmly behind Rabuka, emphasizing that there are no divisions within the ranks of the PA.

“We, as the People’s Alliance, are 100% behind him. We support his decision to run for re-election in the 2026 General Election,” stated Tuisawau. He insisted that if detractors wish for the Prime Minister to resign, they should follow the proper parliamentary procedures, such as presenting a motion of no confidence or challenging him in the next election.

Rabuka has faced public pressure for not releasing the complete COI report and concerns regarding the appointment of Lavinia Rokoika as acting FICAC commissioner, alongside delays in implementing the inquiry’s recommendations. Notably, Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica voiced the party’s commitment but refrained from commenting on the inquiry itself, redirecting inquiries to the Prime Minister.

While some party members have voiced discontent—such as former PAP vice-president Ro Naulu Mataitini, who accused Rabuka of lacking vision—Rabuka has maintained an optimistic view. Deputy Prime Minister Kamikamica remarked that despite ongoing discussions around the COI, significant positive progress has been achieved, indicating that the party is building from a challenging past of mismanagement.

This support illustrates a strong desire within the People’s Alliance to navigate through current criticisms and maintain unity heading into the crucial election period. The upcoming months could provide an opportunity for the PA to reinforce its commitment to governance and transparency, fostering public trust and optimism as they prepare for future electoral challenges.
