The executives of the People’s Alliance are convening in Suva today to deliberate on the future of dismissed Minister Lynda Tabuya. The Prime Minister made the decision to remove Tabuya from the cabinet after a nude video of her was shared on social media, sparking significant controversy. Although the Prime Minister is currently in the Northern Division, he is anticipated to participate in the meeting via Zoom.
Earlier this year, the People’s Alliance executive committee had already stripped Tabuya of her position as the Party’s Deputy Leader. Despite her removal from the ministerial role, she continues to serve as a Member of Parliament. However, the possibility of losing her parliamentary seat remains if the Party decides to pursue her expulsion.
This situation raises important questions about accountability and the standards expected of public officials. It is crucial for political parties to navigate such controversies with fairness while also considering the impact of their decisions on governance and representation. As discussions unfold, there remains hope that the outcome will reflect a commitment to integrity and ethical conduct in public service.
